Hash Generator (SHA-256, SHA-1, MD5)

How to use the hash generator (sha-256, sha-1, md5)

  1. Type or paste your text.
  2. Choose an algorithm, or all three.
  3. Copy the hash.

Which hash?

SHA-256 is the modern standard for checksums and signatures. SHA-1 and MD5 are broken for security purposes but still common for checksums and legacy systems. Never use any of these alone to store passwords.

Questions

Does a trailing space or line break change the hash?

Yes. Any change to the input, even an invisible one, produces a completely different hash.

Can a hash be reversed?

No. Hashes are one-way, although short common inputs can be guessed.
