How to use the box shadow generator

  1. Adjust offset, blur and spread.
  2. Pick a colour and opacity.
  3. Copy the box-shadow line.

Natural-looking shadows

Real shadows are soft and slightly tinted. A large blur with a negative spread, low opacity and a hint of colour from your design looks more natural than solid black. A second, tight shadow adds a crisp edge, which is what the “soft second layer” option does.

Questions

Does box-shadow affect layout?

No. Shadows are drawn outside the element without moving anything around it.
